SALKANTAY 5 DAYS / 4 NIGHTS

The tour starts a day before coordination of the schedule with the passengers to provide them with a breifing or information about the route with the recommendations and suggestions, this information will be provided by the guide who  will accompany them on their adventure to Salkantay.

ITINERARY

Our tour starts very early in the morning between 4:30 a.m. to 5:00 a.m. with the pick up from your respective hotel to go in a tourist transport to the town of Mollepata (2900 m.a.s.l.), place where we will have breakfast, and then continue uphill, for 1 hour to Challacancha, which will be the starting point of our walk and presentation of our support staff as cooks and muleteers,  being the people in charge of organizing the equipment and pack mules, we will start our adventure walking for approximately 3 hours to Soraypampa (3850 m.a.s.l.), where we will have our lunch and the first base camp of Salkantay.

After lunch and a short break, we will walk to the wonderful Humantay Lagoon  (4200 m.a.s.l.), an attraction where we will have some time to photograph and enjoy the natural landscape that surrounds it, after appreciating this beautiful place we will descend to Soraypampa for dinner and spend the night.

After an early awakening with the first light of day at 05:30 AM and an energizing breakfast, we will start the trekking to the highest point of the trail which is the Salkantay Passage  at 4650 masl, we will ascend 7 km approximately 3 hours of walking between the base of the rocky valley and the magnificent Salkantay mountain  at 6271 masl, after a short break and enjoy the surrounding natural landscapes we will follow the walk downhill 5 km to Huayracmachay place where we will have lunch,

After our comforting lunch we will continue with our adventure entering the upper part of the Amazon jungle that is also called the “cloud forest”, for 10 km until we reach Chaullay (2900 m.a.s.l.) where we will have dinner and it will be our second camp to spend the night.

Very early in the morning and after breakfast at 06:00 am we will start our trek to Lucmabamba passing through the different towns such as;  Colpapampa, also known as the “front of the cloud forest”, place where you can appreciate the flora and fauna of the place such as waterfalls, birds, hot springs and fruit trees; until we reach a town called La Playa that is located in the valley of Santa Teresa, where we will have lunch, after a short break and an energizing lunch we will make a walk of approximately 1 hour to our camp in Lucmabamba (2400  m.s.n.m), where we will have dinner and spend the night.

After a nutritious breakfast very early in the morning, we will continue with our adventure and on this day we will begin to  ascend  for approximately 2 hours to reach the site of “Llactapata Inca” located in front of Machu Picchu, after visiting the archaeological center of Llactapata, we will continue our walk descending for 2 hours to  the Hydroelectric train station place where we will have a comforting lunch.

After a nutritious lunch and a short break we will resume our trek where we will visit “Intiwatana” a famous ancient rock used as a sundial in the Inca era. After passing this interesting Inca site, we will arrive at the Hydroelectric railway. In this place you will have two options: the first if you are exhausted, you can take the train to Aguas Calientes, the second walk from Hidroeléctrica to Aguas Calientes for about 3 hours on the train track.

Today we reach the end of our trek and it is the most important and, rewarding and expected day for visitors because we will know one of the 7 wonders of the modern world the lost city of Machupicchu or also called the Llaqta of Machupicchu and we will start with:

  • Buffet breakfast at the hotel.
  • We will take the bus to Machupicchu at the time indicated with the guide the day before.
  • The tour in the Llacta de Machupicchu will be approximately 2:30 hours.
  • Finishing the tour we will take the return bus to Aguas Calientes where we will have free time to have lunch, visit the town (on your own) until the time of boarding the return train to Ollantaytambo.
  • At the Ollantaytambo train station the agency staff will be waiting for you to transfer you to your corresponding hotel in the city of Cusco.

Return to your respective hotel in the city of Cusco.

SUGGESTIONS:

  • To book this tour requires at least 30 days in advance.
  • For the realization of the tour a high physical level and a good state of health are required.

  • Trekking boots must be waterproof
  • Clothes that warm at night.
  • Rain gear.
  • Cap or Hator for the sun.
  • Long pants, we do not recommend that they wear jeans. Several poles.
  • Small towel.
  • Hot spring bathing suit in Aguas Calientes.

  • Plastic poncho for rain.
  • Medicine and/or articles for personal use (liquid for contact lenses).
  • Snacks: cookies, energy bars, chocolate, fruits, muesli, water, etc.
  • Bottle of water, you should drink plenty of water on the hike.

  • Original passport (for the Entrance Control to Machu Picchu).
